Steve Hartman is an American journalist, reporter, and correspondent based in New York who currently serving at CBS News since joining in 1998. He became well known for his award-winning feature series, Everybody Has a Story, and got the idea from newspaper reporter David Johnson of the Lewiston Morning Tribune.
Furthermore, Hartman traveled around the country, from Hawaii to Alaska, from Buckhannon, West Virginia, to Miami, Florida, and took the series worldwide when it featured an astronaut in the International Space Station. He brings viewers moving stories from the unique people he meets in his weekly award-winning feature segment, On the Road, which airs every Friday on the CBS Evening News.
Debuting in 1998 and continuing for the next seven years, Steve produced more the 120 such pieces of Everybody Has a Story and in one month’s time, he had traveled around the world twice. Moreover, he has won dozens of prestigious broadcast journalism awards for his work including nine RTNDA, three national Emmy awards, and an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Award.
Prior to that, Steve was a columnist for 60 Minutes Wednesday and a correspondent for two prime-time CBS News magazines, “Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel” (1997-1998) and “Coast to Coast”. He was a feature reporter at KCBS-TV, the CBS-owned station in Los Angeles, WABC-TV in New York, and KSTP TV in Minneapolis.
